My name is Sydney Gelhar. As a player, I am dedicated to the competitive nature of high-level basketball. I am a guard who prioritizes playing unselfish, aggressive minutes. My skills include annoying on-ball defense, the ability to find shots in the midrange, as well as agility and speed. I am an effective communicator and valuable teammate. Although I have been a starter my entire high school career, I've had the opportunity to learn from several strong upperclassmen leaders.
Defensively, I am strong enough to match up with larger players and fast enough to give guards a hard time. Offensively, I find ways to get to the rim effectively, capable of scoring at all three levels (3-pointers, midrange, layup), and also set up shots for my teammates. As an upperclassman, I am bringing up the ball to create more scoring opportunities for my team and led my high school team in assists this past season.
My goal is to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level and to contribute to my future team's success. Along with basketball, I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA and participate in extracurricular activities such as Model UN and the Interact program. Additionally, I am a partner athlete on the Unified Basketball team and a starter on the varsity Field Hockey team in the fall. My contributions helped lead our field hockey team to the state championship game during both my sophomore and junior years, which taught me how to perform under pressure and fueled my drive to play at highly competitive levels.
